TAB's purpose is simple: to create products that make the world work better. It’s a lofty one, but when we inject our mobile specialism into some of the biggest companies in the world, we create game-changing products.
As the biggest team of mobile specialists in the world (over 500 people globally and over 150 in London), we believe that the opportunity for our team is increasingly exciting, as we see user experiences unbundle from smartphones into a multitude of emerging platforms and touchpoints such as cars, speakers and wearables.
About the Design Team:
Our team of 25+ permanent and contract Experience / Product designers are involved from planning through to delivery of products and services across fintech, retail, mobility, transportation and more, acting as ever-present advocates for the user. Our goal is to understand the complexity and context of people and business’ needs, ensuring we create lasting experiences for them, setting new standards.
The DesignOps role in a nutshell:
As an experienced DesignOps Manager/ Design Manager, you will be working closely with the Design Leads to define and develop our design teams strategy, including weekly project and team planning activities and driving the scaling of design within TAB promoting effective ways of working in our London HQ and across new TAB locations.
You’ll have a good grasp on the capabilities of the current team, enabling you to identify and facilitate development and training opportunities with the goal of assisting career progression and job satisfaction. You’ll also work closely with managers in the team to ensure performance reviews are scheduled and peer feedback is provided to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of the reviews.
Organisation and planning are also key to the success of this role - you’ll be tracking designers time on projects and managing project rotations where appropriate. You will regularly work alongside other parts of the business; with the people team to enhance the design team’s experience at TAB, with our Client Partners and Product Owners to estimate projects and extensions, with Casting to ensure we have the right skills on the right projects, and with the Talent team to help drive us hiring the best designers into TAB, ensuring a first class candidate experience.
A key part of your role will be raising the profile of design at TAB both internally and externally. You’ll be responsible for community engagement, identifying speaking opportunities and events and representing TAB at these events.
The type of person we would love to meet:
You’re enthusiastic about advancing designers’ craft skills, soft skills and careers
You’ve worked hands-on as an experience (UX) or product (UI) designer / researcher in the past
You understand how mobile and / or web projects are created from start to end
You’re confident in helping scope work and recognise the required skills to deliver it
You’re a great communicator and listener, always flexible, and enjoy exploring options with others
You excite people about the opportunities projects offer, and engage with cross-functional teams
You’re passionate about design, great design work, and the right processes to get there
You’ve been responsible for looking after designers, either on a one-to-one or department basis
You’ve screened, interviewed and onboarded designers to help grow teams
This role would suit someone who’s looking to work part time (minimum 20 hours a week) but we are also open to considering full time applicants too.
